Mid Century Mod tour in East Austin

This Saturday Oct 5th the good folks from Mid Tex Mod are putting on a little Mid Century Modern tour in East Austin. It will feature architecture by John S Chase who was the first African American architect in Texas. 

The tour will kick off with a lecture at 1:30 at the Carver Museum and Cultural Center followed by a self guided tour at the David Chapel (1959) and the Phillips House (1964). 

Other notable projects done by John Chase on the East side include the Thompson House (1963), Kings Tears Mortuary, House of Elegance (formerly Colored Teachers State Association of Texas Building), and the Olivet Baptist Church (1961).
