I love homes tours as much as the next guy, maybe even more. As a realtor I literally walk through hundreds of modern and MCM homes in Austin every year, and every time I do I'm looking and learning. The 10 homes picked for this years AIA Austin Home tour are the cream of the crop and I'm excited to dig into them and see what there is to be found. Here are the top 3 picks (in no particular order) that I'll be visiting this year, and why they caught my eye.

Charles Di Piazza Architecture Chris Cobb Architecture

This project looks by architects Charles Di Piazza and Chris Cobb looks extremely well detailed. If you know me, you know I'm a stickler for a good kitchen, and I'm liking what I see here. It also looks like there is an linear diffuser in the ceiling instead of the typical ugly heat register in the floor. That tells me two things. #1 Someone cares about the details. #2 They were willing to spend the extra money to get those details right. Last but not least, I'm interested in seeing how those can lights hanging down from the ceiling look in person.

FAB Architecture

FAB Architecture has been a favorite of mine ever since I stepped foot inside their Clifford Ave house on this years Modern Homes Tour. This particular house caught my eye for a few reasons. First, I'm a total sucker for board formed concrete, and the integrated shelf in the kitchen photo above has me intrigued. This home is also a good example of urban infill. It's built behind an existing house in 78704, so I'm interested to see how the site planning works.

Webber + Studio, Architects

This Webber + Studio project is just one of the many remodels that are on the tour this week. Besides being a fantastic looking home, I'm also interested in checking it out because of the builder. Matt Risigner of Resigner homes is a self described construction nerd. He obsesses about the details, and not just the ones on the surface either. I'm excited to see his handiwork in person.

Bonus: Minguell-McQuary

This East Austin house would have made my short list too, except for one thing. I've already walked through it a few times! If you haven't checked it out before, I recommend you do.
