2014 AIA Austin Homes Tour

If there is one thing Austin loves, it's a good homes tour, and while it's hard to believe a year has gone by already, the AIA Austin homes tour is back this Oct 25th-26th. As always the AIA manages to round up an impressive list of local starchitects, and this year you'll be able to gawk at works by Dick Clark and Michael Hsu among others. There is a full list on their website, along with a link to buy tickets ($35) While I'm sure all of them are worth checking out, here is a preview of the homes I'm most interested in seeing.

Jay Hargrave & Jay Corder

Jay Hargrave & Jay Corder

I'm a total sucker for a good pool, and this Jay Hargrave & Jay Corder designed house has a stunning one. I also really love the covered outdoor space that they have created near the pool, it looks like the perfect setup for a lazy Saturday with some friends.

There is just something about using concrete inside a house that get's me every time. This concrete wrapped kitchen has definitely caught my eye. I'm excited to see what other great materials are being used in this Mell Lawrence house.

Michael Hsu

Michael Hsu

Michael Hsu has a keen eye for materials. He does a great job of using a warmer pallet that really goes a long way towards softening up a place. Almost every project I see of his I'm totally stoked by the tile chosen. No exceptions here.

For me adding a little whimsy into a modern house is a tough line to walk. Too much and it just comes off as gimmicky. Luckily Weber + Studio seem to have the magic touch. The orange counters and pebble floors are just enough to give this place a strong personality without making me feel like I'm stuck in a horrible 70's disco movie.
